Welcome to BTS 2! This time the song I’ll be talking about a song off my Gravity LP called “Solo” or “Game For Two”
I liked both names and couldn’t decide on one so I’m using both =P
Which one of you guys have watched Fight Club? In the movie, Brad Pitt gives everyone a homework assignment, to start a fight with a stranger. Everyone realizes that this is actually a lot harder than expected. People normally do everything they can to avoid confrontation. Sure they’ll snap back and yell some profanity, but to actually start a physical confrontation with a complete stranger is not an easy feat!
The purpose of this Fight Club reference is to point out that starting an emotional or “mental” fight is very much the same as a physical fight. You cannot walk up to a complete stranger and say words that will scar them emotionally. Sure, you can put them down by their appearance and lower their self-esteem, but that isn’t quite the same as hearing a significant other tear you apart by attacking everything you are insecure about.
But what’s worse than a couple’s quarrel? a couple’s breakup? APATHY Being the solo player in the game of love. You truly love and care about another, but the response you get is apathy. You will only truly fight with people you care about, because only people you care about are able to hurt you enough to receive such response. Do you remember your parents yelling at you? Arguments with your girlfriend or boyfriend?
I can definitely remember plenty.. and it’s a pretty crappy feeling, but now imagine you did something wrong and instead of getting yelled at.. you were met with indifference? No one cared?
That…is the ultimate sh*tty feeling =)
So this song is about a guy who’s playing the game of love by himself. The girl he cares about has been leading him on and dropping him at her discretion and he’s fed up and devastated. In the bridge, he vows that the next time she comes crawling back… he wont be there. Easier said than done though =P
